DONALD DOUGLAS HENDERSON received his training as an engineer in New Zealand at the time when the gold dredging industry was in its infancy.
He came to London in 1899 and worked with Messrs. Burstall and Monkhouse, consulting engineers of London, as an assistant engineer.
In 1903 he commenced business on his own account as partner in the firm of Messrs. Inder and Henderson of London. His work took him to many countries, and in Servia he was responsible for the plans and specifications for the electric generating plant, as well as the dredgers which were operated by that plant.
Mr. Henderson joined the board of Messrs. Kirkaldy and Company during the War, and was chairman of the firm at the time of his death on 19th December 1931.
He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1902.
