  • Education - Barnard Castle and Durham University.
  • Apprenticeship with Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson Ltd., Wallsend, and later Assistant Manager with same firm.
  • 1915-19 Assistant Constructor, Royal Corps of Naval Constructors.
  • 1919-23 Head of Marine Dept., Cardiff Technial College, and Consulting Naval Architect.
  • 1923-33 Assistant General Manager, Palmer's Shipbuilding and Iron Co., Ltd.
