Edwards Air Pump Syndicate Ltd [1] aka Edwards

of 3 Crown Court, Old Broad Street, London.

1897 The company was registered on 29 September. [2] to commercialise the air pump developed by Frederick Edwards

1900 Air pumps of the Edwards' design were used in the condensing plant at Port Dundas Generating Station

1904 C. Williamson Milne was chairman of the Edwards Air Pump Syndicate Ltd, of London; another director was Frank Lander Rowe, manager of the Edwards Air Pump Syndicate Ltd[3]

1907 Allen-Edwards air pump shown at the Engineering and Machinery Exhibition [4]

By 1909 was a public company

1909: 555 pumps booked in the year, compared with 792 in 1908, of which 55% were for marine use[5]

1911 The Syndicate was voluntarily wound up[6]



  • Applications of Edwards Pumps

1912 The pumping plant for Immingham Graving Dock, installed by W. H. Allen, Son, and Co Ltd of Bedford, included pumps of the Allen-Edwards type for priming the main pumps[7]

1914 George Fletcher and Co supplied plant to Brazil which included Fletcher-Edwards air pump for the condensing plant[8]
