Edwin Bray (1824-1887) of Bray, Waddington and Co

1824 September 26th. Baptised at Bradford the son of James Bray, a Mason, and his wife Elizabeth Golder

1841 Living at Union Place, Hunslet: Elizabeth Bray (age c35), Independent. With Joseph Bray (age c18), Edwin Bray (age c16) and James Bray (age c3). One servant.[1]

1848 Manager of New Dock Iron Works[2]

1851 Living at 2 Cemetery Villas, Leeds: Edwin Bray (age 26 born Bradford), Engineer and Iron Founder. With his wife Ann Matilda Bray (age 24 born Holbeck) and their children Louisa Bray (age 3 born Leeds) and James Edwin Bray (age 2 born Leeds). One servant.[3]

1856 Became a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers - of New Dock Iron Works, Leeds - Bray, Waddington and Co

1856 Went to India

1858 Advertises for staff to go to India. 'WANTED, an experienced PLATE LAYER to go to India. Good character required. Apply to Edwin Bray and Co, New Dock Iron Works'[4]

Went to South Africa

1861 Lodging in a private hotel at 31 Arundel Street, Westminster: Edwin Bray (age 37 born Bradford), Railway Contractor.[5]

1885 Edwin Bray, a prospector discovered gold in the hills above Barberton and with 14 partners started the Sheba Reef Gold Mining Company, South Africa.

1887 July 14th. Died at Pretoria.
