ERNEST ALBERT MANN was associated with the firm of Messrs. William Johnson and Sons (Leeds), Ltd., general engineers, from his apprenticeship, which he began to serve in 1891, until his death, which occurred on 3rd September 1943, in his sixty-fourth year. On the completion of his apprenticeship in 1899 he was made junior representative, and ten years later was appointed works manager at the firm's Castleton Foundry, Leeds.
In 1917 he became a director, and since that date had acted as chief technical representative, in which capacity he was responsible for the survey of sites, the inspection of materials, and the design of plant. Mr. Mann in the course of his long association with the business, extending over fifty years, had an extensive experience of a wide range of equipment, including Portland cement and brickmaking plant, besides general crushing and grinding machinery.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1917.
