ERNEST EDMOND JAMES FARQUHAR, who was born in 1876, received his technical education at the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, Bristol. He was associated with the firm of Messrs. George Adlam and Sons, Ltd., general engineers, of Bristol, from his apprenticeship, which he served from 1892 to 1897, up to the time of his death, which occurred on 13th May 1944.
After receiving his practical training in the foundry and the drawing office, he was placed in charge of a department and was responsible for the design of factory buildings and other structural work. He then filled successively the positions of travelling representative, chief draughtsman, supervising engineer, and finally joint managing director.
Mr. Farquhar had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1907.
