Ernest Trubshaw ( -1910), managing director of the Western Tin Plate Works

1910 Obituary [1]

ERNEST TRUBSHAW died at his residence, Ael-y-bryn, Llanelly, on September 3, 1910. In his early years he held a position with the Barrow Iron and Steel Co. at Barrow-in-Furness, and in 1879 was appointed managing director of the Western Tinplate Works, a post which he retained until the time of his death. He also was the chairman of that company, of the Llanelly Steel Co., and of the Briton Ferry Steel Co., and a member of the London Metal Exchange.

It was upon his advice, given from an employer's point of view, that the tinplate workers strengthened their combination so as to form a strong association which could approach employers as a body for the purpose of settling their differences amicably. The leaders of the men responded, and in 1899 the Tinplate Conciliation Board was formed, and the activities of this organisation have fully justified Mr. Trubshaw's suggestion. For many years he took a leading part in the public life in Llanelly, and it was chiefly through his support that the North Dock was constructed by the ratepayers of that town.

He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1881.
