1880 Born in Ohio

Graduated in mechanical engineering at Ohio State University

Started work at the Fairmont Coal Company in Fairmont, West Virginia as test engineer.

1907-9 Head of the coal department of Arthur D. Little Inc.

1909-15 Mechanical engineer and partner in the Fuel Testing Corporation in Boston.

1916 Founded the Bailey Meter Co in Boston

1919 Moved the company to Cleveland, Ohio

Bailey obtained 141 patents for his inventions.

1942 Received the ASME Medal

1948-9 Served as 67th president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

1949 Delivered the James Clayton Lecture: "Invention and Sifting Out Engineering Facts"

1974 Died in Pennsylvania
