1969 Obituary [1]

Mr F. L. Atkin (Fellow) a former Chairman of the Midland Branch died recently.

Mr Atkin received his technical education at the Birmingham College of Technology. He then joined the newly formed City of Birmingham Industrial Research Laboratories as Technical Assistant in the Physical, Electrical and Mechanical Laboratories. Subsequently he was seconded to the new Industrial Heating Section, engaged in the design and development and construction of new types of furnaces and appliances using gas.

In 1947 he became Distribution Engineer to the Birmingham Gas Department and on nationalisation was appointed Chief Distribution Engineer to the West Midlands Gas Board.

Mr Atkins became a Student Member of the Institution in 1922, a Graduate in 1926 and was transferred to Associate Member in 1927 and full Member in 1941.
