Ferranti-Packard Electric
Ferranti had a Canadian subsidiary, Ferranti Packard
1962 A team of engineers from Canada visited the parent company in the UK to find out what had been done in digital computing
back home, with help from some recruits from the UK, they designed and produced the FP6000 computer in a very short period of time, using engineering techniques developed in seat reservation systems they had produced.
1963 The first FP6000 was installed and running at the US Federal Reserve Bank in New York in March 1963. This prompted a fact-finding visit by a UK team to study all aspects of the FP6000. In order to save time Ferranti/ICT decided to use it as the basis for a new computer.
1964 The 1900 Series was announced in September 1964, only six months after IBM launched System/360.
