1936 Obituary [1]

FRANK BIGGIN was an authority on heating and ventilating engineering. He was a joint managing director of the Brightside Foundry and Engineering Company, Ltd., of Sheffield; and at the time of his death, which occurred on 12th March 1936, in his sixty-ninth year, he had completed fifty-three years' connexion with the firm.

He served his apprenticeship from 1882 to 1889 in the firm's rolling mills and steelworks, and then became manager of one of the foundries. Subsequently he took charge of the drawing office. In 1900 he became manager of the business, and opened branch offices in London, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Birmingham. He was appointed to the board of directors in 1917 and was made joint managing director in 1928.

In addition he was a director of Messrs. Moorwoods, Ltd., makers of stove grates and cooking equipment.

Mr. Biggin carried out the steam boiler installation and the heating and ventilating plant for the Royal College of Science, Dublin, and for several large public buildings and power stations.

He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1921 and was a past-president of the Institution of Heating and Ventilating Engineers and of the National Association of Master Heating Engineers.
