FRANK WEARING JARMAN was born in Liverpool on 3rd October 1886, and his education, which was gained at local schools, was supplemented by attendance at the technical classes of the Liverpool Institute.
He served his apprenticeship, from 1902 to 1907, with Messrs. C. and A. Husker, Ltd., hydraulic and electrical engineers, Liverpool, and on completion he gained further experience with Messrs. Mansfield and Sons, Ltd., gas engineers, Calcutta and Liverpool, and in their interests travelled in India during the years 1907-9.
In 1910 he joined Messrs. Guthrie and Co., Ltd., of London and Singapore, as chief mechanical engineer, being in charge of various contracts in Burma, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies, and the Federated Malay States. He also took charge of the engineering branch of the business at Kuala Lumpur.
This connexion was severed in 1920, and Mr. Jarman then took up an engineering appointment with the Federated Malay States Railways at Kuala Lumpur, and this position he retained up to the time of his death.
He died suddenly at the European Hospital, Kuala Lumpur, on 13th August 1924, in his thirty-eighth year.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1918.
