FRANZ RINECKER, of Wurzburg, Germany, was born on the 16th December, 1843.
After studying mathematics and engineering athe Polytechnic School, Carlsruhe, and subsequently at the Polytechnic School, Zurich, he began practical work in November, 1864, as an Assistant Engineer on the Bavarian State Railways, laying out and constructing part of the Munich and Ingolstadt Railway, until November, 1867.
He then travelled in Germany and France, and from August, 1868, to April, 1869, was engaged in various architects' offices in New York.
From May, 1869, to June, 1873, he was employed on the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad, and subsequently on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He surveyed and constructed for the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad, the Erie and Pittsburgh Railroad, and the Ashtabula, Youngetown and Pittsburgh Railroad,and conducted preliminarysurveys for the Shenango Valley and Alliance Railroad. . . .
