Frederick George Saunders (1820-1901), Secretary and later Chairman of the Great Western Railway

1820 December 24th. Born

1844 Appointed as Assistant Secretary to the South Wales Railway

1846 Married Elizabeth Mills

1849 Appointed as Chief Secretary to the South Wales Railway

1861 Living at 14 Staunton Place, Greenwich: Frederick G. Saunders (age 40 born Eltham), Secretary to railway Co. With his wife Elizabeth Saunders (age 38 born Eltham). In the house of his mother Isabella Saunders (age 69 born Rochester). Three servants.[1]

1863 When his uncle, Charles Alexander Saunders retired as Secretary to the GWR, Frederick filled his place

1871 Living at The Moab, Court Yard, Eltham: Frederick G. Saunders (age 50 born Eltham), Secretary to Railway. With his wife Elizabeth Saunders (age 48 born Eltham). They are in the house of her parents Richard and Sarah Mills with others. Also servants.[2]

1886 June Resigned as Secretary and was made a Director of the company.

1889 Succeeded Daniel Gooch as Chairman of the GWR

1895 June. Retired as Chairman and remained a member of the Board until his death

1901 January 1st. Died at Reading.

1901 February 11th. Probate of Frederick George Saunders of Caversham Grove, Oxfordshire, to his widow Elizabeth and others.
