FREDERICK JORGENSEN was born in Copenhagen on the 9th of August, 1831. After graduating at the Polytechnio School in that city, he served an apprenticeship from 1847 to 1852 in the Royal Danish Naval Engineers’ Establishment at Copenhagen.
He was then from 1853 to 1857 with Maudslay, Sons and Field, Lambeth, as a fitter and erector, and was subsequently employed for twelve months as an engineer afloat by the Genoese Transatlantic Company.
