Frederick Wilberforce Thompson (c1876-1931)

FREDERICK WILBERFORCE THOMPSON was a lecturer in the
mechanical engineering department of the School of Engineering
and Navigation, Poplar, from 1913 until the time of his death,
which occurred in his fifty-sixth year, on 31st August 1931.
He was born at Stoke, Devonport, and served his apprenticeship at Messrs. Willoughby Brothers of Plymouth from 1890 to 1895, afterwards being engaged at the Admiralty Dockyards, Devonport and Chatham, from 1895 to 1898.
Subsequently he became draughtsman at Messrs. Hall Brothers, Dartford, and Messrs. Siemens Brothers, Charlton.
He was also with Messrs. Crompton, and Messrs. Kennedy and Jenkins for whom he drew up specifications for the electrification of Madras.
In 1901 Mr. Thompson took up an appointment in the electricity department of the Borough of Islington in connexion with the superintending of the erection of machinery.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1901, and was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
