Fullerton George Gordon Armstrong (1885-1969), founder of the East Riding Engineering Works, producer of the Gordon cyclecar and later formed Armstrong Patents Co

1885 Born the son of William Armstrong, a Land Agent and Valuer, and his wife Prudence Coulthard.

1902-06 Apprentice at Clarke, Chapman and Co

1906-07 Marine Engineer on SS Kura

1907-08 Chief Mechanic at North Eastern Garages

1908 Formed the East Riding Engineering Works

1910 'Gordon Armstrong, proprietor of Riding Motor Garage at Beverley, has for a considerable time been engaged on the construction of an aeroplane, which now completed. The machine is of typo which in many respects resembles the well-known Bleriot, but has a triangular chassis and larger tail....'[1]

1911 Living at 27 Woodlands, Beverley: William Armstrong (age 58 born Henshaw, Northumberland), Land Agent and Vauer - Inland Revenue. With his wife Prudence Eleanor Armstrong (age 58 born Renfrew (Glasgow) and their four children; Prudence Eleanor Armstrong (age 29 born Bewcastle); Fullerton George Gordon Armstrong (age 25 born Bewcastle), Engineer - Motor car Builder - Employer; Marion Isabella Armstrong (age 22 born Bewcastle); and Rozalind Mary Armstrong (age 20 born Bewcastle). One servant.[2]

1912 'On Whit-Monday Mr Gordon Armstrong, of the East Riding Garage, Beverley, won the Scarborough speed trials with one of his 8 h.p. Gordon cars; also on Wednesday, May 29th, he won the Scarborough flexibility hill climb with an 8 h.p. Gordon. On May 11th he was fourth in the Scarborough reliability trials, losing marks for a puncture, otherwise a non-stop run of 90 miles.'[3]

1912 Married(1) at Easington to Margaret Hannah Clark and had sons Ralph Gordon Armstrong (1914-2003), a Public Works Contractors Agent, and William Armstrong (1916-2011), Engineer.

1926 Formed Armstrong Patents Co

1927 Application for membership of IMechE. East Riding Engineering Works employing 30 persons on 1.5 acre site and manufactures patent Governor and Carburettor.

1929 Divorce from first wife.[4]

1930 Married(2) at Wandsworth to Violet Carrie Widgery (1899-1937)

1939 Living at Longcroft Hall, Beverley, an Engineer.[5]

1942 Married(3) at Holderness to Hilda Kathleen Gray (Briggs)
