1866 Auction Notice: 'THE HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE, STOCK-IN-TRADE, and other Effects, the property of Mr. G. E. CHILD, smith, iron founder, and gas engineer (under an execution from the Sheriff.)
The Furniture comprises the usual requisites....
STOCK -IN-TRADE. In Warehouse No. 1.-Consisting of from 40 to 50 register stoves, from 12 to 36 inches; nine cabin stoves, suitable for fishing boats, &c. ; several patent cooking stoves, from 30 to 48 inches; nine Romford ditto, of various sizes; sundry cast fenders, roasters, hall stove with ventilator, umbrella stands, sundry gas fittings, two anchors, about 1 cwt.; one ditto, about seven cwt. iron stocked; large nest of drawers, dressing machine, three large copper frying pans, cast-iron rack, treble motion pump, 24-inch iron pans, galvanized ; iron manger, ovens, iron safe, pump, gas stove, sundry stove fronts, large timber jack, furnace, bar, and sundry castings.
In Warehouse No. 2.- Several lots of useful bar iron, iron troughing, gas fittings, wood lathe, smith's bench and vice.
In Warehouse No. 3.- About one ton of from 3/8 to a one-inch bolt ends, tapped; tin and copper sheets, paints and oils, with pans and brushes, nest of drawers and sundry fittings.
In Carpenter's Shop.- Quantity of thin and wide pine, suitable for mould making; two carpenters' benches, two lathes, and sundry pieces of wood.
In Mould Maker's Shop.- Numerous moulds, lathe, lot of pine for moulds, two blocks and pulls, sundries, &c.
In Yard.- About 10 tons of new iron in bars, suitable for smiths; sundry old chain, moulds (cast iron) for castings; two hand barrows, smith's bench, numerous gas castings, weighing machine and weights; also two useful ponies, carts, and harness, &c. ..... ' [1]
