1841 G. H. Johnstone was born in Frederick Place. (Now demolished and replaced by Thornhill Road).
He began his business career with the old established firm of Hammond, Turner and Sons, button manufacturers.
1860 He entered the jewellery trade and steadily worked his way to the front.
c1870 He established the firm of G. H. Johnstone and Co in Northampton Street.
1928 Patent - A new or improved folder for collar studs.
1929 Listed Exhibitor. Manufacturers of Gold and Gold and Platinum Sleevelinks, Waistcoat Buttons and Studs to match, with Mother of Pearl, Onyx and Enamels. Gold Studs made in one piece, Gold Safety Pins. Birmingham Jewellers' and Silversmiths' Association. (Stand Nos. J.43 and J.54) [1]
