Gattonside Suspension Bridge
in Melrose, near Galashiels, Scottish Borders
It was drastically altered in 1991 by replacing the deck and railings with a stiff welded steel deck/parapet structure, adding new suspension chains, hangers, saddles, and anchorages. The original stone towers are still used, and the original chains are still present, supported by the new chains.
Some interesting acerbic comments on the alterations may be found here, on the 'Happy Pontist' website.
