1846 February 23rd. George Bennie, Ironfounder, married Marion the eldest daughter of William Ritchie of Wistown, at 132 South Portland Street, Glasgow. [1]

1861 Living at Govan, Glasgow: George Bennie (age 35 born Glasgow), an Ironfounder. With his wife Marion (age 33) and their children Marion Bennie (age 14), James Bennie (age 11), John Bennie (age 9), Lillias Bennie (age 7), Janet Bennie (age 5), George Bennie (age 3) and William T. 1869 Patent to George Bennie, of Kinning Park, in the county of Renfrew, North Britain, Oil Engineer and Ironfounder, for the invention of "improvements in distilling oils from minerals, and in apparatus therefor."[3]
1875 Patent application by George Bennie, Mineral Oil Engineer and Ironfounder, in respect of the invention of "improvements in retorts and their fittings,and appurtenances connected therewith, for the distillation of shale, coal, or other oleaginous or bituminous minerals or earths."[4]
1876 Patent on vertical retort for distilling shale, coal and other minerals[5]
1881 Living at Brooksby House, Aytoun Road, Kinning Park, Glasgow: George Bennie (age 56 born Glasgow), ironfounder. With his wife Marion Bennie (age 54 born Glasgow) and their two daughters Marion Bennie (age 34 born Glasgow) and Agnes Bennie (age 19 born Glasgow). One servant.[6]
