GEORGE COGHLAN WATSON was apprenticed at the age of 14 with Messrs. Manlove, Alliott and Company of Nottingham.
He afterwards went to Canada for two years and then to India, where he worked on the construction of the hydraulic floating dock at Hogg Island, Bombay.
In 1884 he joined the staff of the Manganese Bronze and Brass Company, London, and in 1890 became works manager and later general manager. He superintended the manufacture of screw-propellers of both solid and built-up types, and was responsible for the introduction of many appliances now used in the casting of propellers. He also had charge of the rolling mills of the company.
Mr. Watson, who retired seven years ago, died on 26th February 1927 in his eighty-sixth year.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1890.
