GEORGE HENRY BURROWS was born on 16th January 1870, and was educated at Swindon.
At the age of thirteen he became an apprentice in the locomotive shops of the Great Western Railway at Swindon.
Seven years later he entered the drawing office, and, after passing through the various sections, became chief draughtsman in December 1905, which position he held until his death.
Latterly, Mr. Burrows was also personal assistant to the Chief Mechanical Engineer.
For a number of years he had been on the board of directors of the Swindon United Gas Co., and he was a director of the Swindon Building Society.
He had been in delicate health for some time, and died unexpectedly on 27th July 1923, in his fifty-fourth year.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1904, and a Member in 1911.
