GEORGE MANNERS DICKSON was born in 1844.
In 1857 he entered Messrs. James Watt and Co.'s Soho Works, Birmingham, and there served an apprenticeship of seven years till midsummer 1864.
During 1865 he was engaged in erecting and repairing engines at Fleetwood, Preston, Leeds, and Birmingham; and during the next two years erected pumping machinery at Novo Tcherkask, Russia, for which he received a silver medal for ability from the Emperor.
In December 1867 he went to Calcutta, where he erected large pumping engines and machinery, of which he had charge until 1887, when he was promoted to the position of assistant engineer to the Calcutta Water Works.
His death took place at Calcutta on 8th August 1895, at the age of fifty-one.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1888.
