GEORGE P. WINCOTT died suddenly on November 22, 1915, at the age of fifty-seven.
He came to Sheffield at an early age, and was for many years foreman at the works of Messrs. John Brown & Co., Ltd.
In 1903 he commenced business as a builder of furnaces, specialising in steel-melting furnaces, which soon gained high repute throughout the steel trade of the country. Many furnaces of the largest type in Sheffield, South Wales, the Midlands, Lancashire, and elsewhere were erected by him.
In 1913 he converted his business into a private limited company, of which he was chairman.
He was a regular attendant at the meetings of the Iron and Steel Institute, of which he became a member in 1904.
