1940 'Quaint Names
Among the streets in which, as the air raid precautions authorities gave notice yesterday, public shelters are to be constructed next is Phoebe Ann Street. I am not aware who was the Phoebe Ann commemorated by this street; but Liverpool has also Lydia Ann Street, the origin of whose name is known. Soon after 1758, the Phoenix Foundry was established in York Street under the management of George Perry. This interesting character married Lydia Ann, daughter of Philip Lacroix, of an old Huguenot family, and she is honoured the name of the street.[2]
