GEORGE THOMAS MEEK was boiler-house superintendent to the Fulham Borough Council until his retirement five years ago after thirty years' service.
He served his apprenticeship from 1875 to 1881 under the late Mr. J. Tomlinson, M.I.Mech.E., in the locomotive department of the Metropolitan Railway.
He was then employed at the Woolwich Arsenal until 1886 and during this period attended technical evening classes at the Polytechnic.
In 1886 he went to sea as an engineer on the s.s. "Nonpareil," owned by Messrs. Scrutton and Son, and having gained his Board of Trade certificates, became chief engineer in various other steamships.
He remained at sea until 1898, when he was appointed works foreman at the Hammersmith electricity works.
Mr. Meek was 72 years of age at the time of his death, which occurred on 31st May 1932.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1900.
