GEORGE WILLIAM DRUMMOND was a son of Dugald Drummond, M.I.Mech.E., who was locomotive superintendent of several British railways. Mr. George Drummond received his education at the Albany Academy, Glasgow, from 1878 to 1886, and then entered the St. Rollox works of the Caledonian Railway, where he served a five years' apprenticeship.
In 1891 he was made manager and junior partner of the Glasgow Railway Engineering Company, Ltd., which had just been founded by his father. The firm specialized in the manufacture of wheels and axles for railway rolling stock, and had its headquarters at Govan. Mr. Drummond later became senior partner and eventually managing director of the firm, with which he was associated for the rest of his life.
He was a Member of the Institution for forty years, having been elected in 1898. His death occurred on 7th September 1938, at the age of 65.
