1879 Advert: 'GLOSSOP, TINGLE, AND COMPANY, STEAM HAMMER WORKS, ALMA-STREET, Wish to call the attention of Manufacturers to their New PATENT POWER HAMMER, which is specially designed for the Sheffield Trades, &c., such as File Forging, Table Blade Forging, Spindle Forging, Fork Drawing, Pick Drawing, and Edge-tool Forgings, and all kinds of Light Work similar to the above.
The great feature in this Hammer is, you can strike the light blow without altering the speed, or have the heavy blow first stroke and stop next, the same being regulated by a Treadle similar to a small Steam Hammer, and will stop instantly without interfering with the Belt, is equal to a 1/2 cwt Steam Hammer in working operations, with one-tenth of the cost driving.
