The 1905 O.S. map [1] shows Gorebrook Iron Works on Pink Bank Lane in an area called Nutsford Vale. The small Gore Brook was immediately to the south. To the east were fields, and the Gorton UDC sewage works. Immediately to the north was a dye works, and to the west, streeets of terraced houses.
