1923 Company formed with the object of running the wartime channel train ferry boats between Harwich and Zeebrugge, at which ports terminal berths and railway connections were constructed. The distance between Harwich and Zeebrugge is about 84 miles.

1925 The service opened in April. Each of the 3 ferry boats carried fifty four 12 ton wagons.
