GUY LUTLEY SCLATER, Captain, R.N., lost his life in the service of his country on the 26th November, 1914, when H.M.S. Bulwark sank, as the result of an explosion on board, at Sheerness.
He was born in 1868 and was the son of the late Mr. P. L. Sclater, the well-known zoologist.
He received his education at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, and in the training-ship Vernon at Portsmouth, in which vessel at a later date he served as staff instructor in Electricity and Torpedo Work.
In 1902 he became Secretary of the Admiralty Committee on the electrical equipment of His Majesty's ships, thereafter filling several staff appointments until he received the command of the battleship in which he lost his life.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1903.
