Amongst the items described as 'Fancy Goods' that the company began to sell were ladies powder compacts known as 'Flapjacks'. These were flat discoid containers on the inside of each one was a piece of silk attached to a metal ring and through which the powder was sieved prior to being used as a make up using a powder puff. The first ones made required the silk to be sewn on to the ring by hand which Mrs Percy Wynn Marshall did. Then the compact was decorated with an orange background and over which was added a black Chinese design. The painting in Chinese Laquer was done by Percy Wynn Marshall. He gained the ideas for these designs during visits to Germany during the early 1930's.' [3]
