HMS Prince was a Royal Navy storeship, powered by sail and by a 300hp engine through a single screw.
1854 Built by C. J. Mare and Co and launched in April for the General Screw Steam Shipping Co
1854 She was purchased from her mercantile owners for £105,000 in July and commissioned under Commander Benjamin Baynton. She sailed for the Crimea, carrying 150 persons and a cargo of much needed winter uniforms.
1854 She was lost in a storm off Balaklava in November. The loss of the ship and its cargo caused a public outcry in Britain because of the severe winter conditions being endured by troops in unsuitable clothing.
29 other Allied transport ships were wrecked during the same storm.
