Harold Edward Midgley, M.A., gained the reputation of being one of the world's authorities on steam turbines.
He was educated at Wakefield Grammar School, and Queen's College, Cambridge, and obtained an honours degree in mathematics. Subsequently he served, over a number of years, with various well-known engineering concerns, and in 1934 he joined the board of the Brush Group, then known as Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd. He held the position until his decease on 1st July 1956 at the age of seventy-six.
He served also on the boards of Dammann Asphalt Co., Ltd., as Chairman; Newton Brothers (Derby), Ltd., as Vice-Chairman; Ruth's International Accumulators, Ltd., as Chairman; and Scott Insulated Wire Co., Ltd.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1911, and transferred to Member in 1918. He was also a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
