c.1880 James started making his cycles about 1880 in a small factory in Constitution Hill, Birmingham.
1881 Henry James 22, machinist bicycle maker, lived in Birmingham with Caroline James 20, Caroline James 10 months[2]
By 1890 he had moved to larger premises in Sampson Road North, Sparkbrook, Birmingham
1891 Henry W James 32, cycle manufacturer, employer lived in Deritend with Caroline James 30, Caroline James 10, Lily James 5, Henry W James 3, Annie M James 1, Frank James 3 months[3]
1897 the James Cycle Company was incorporated.
However, he was a sick man and retired as Managing Director in 1898.
1901 retired engineer, lived in Aston with Caroline James
1905 Harry James died
1908 The Company built new works at Greet.
