HARRY REYNOLDS was regarded as one of the pioneers in South Africa in connexion with steam-generating plant and had been in charge of the South African interests of Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox since 1903.
He was born in London in 1869 and was apprenticed to Messrs. Maudslay, Son and Field, marine engineers.
He then entered the Merchant Service and rose to the position of chief engineer, which he held for a period of five years.
In 1899 he obtained the Board of Trade's certificate as extra first-class engineer.
He then joined Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox as engineer-in-charge of construction work.
In 1903 he was sent out to South Africa and attached to Messrs. Reunert and Lenz as their chief engineer salesman in charge of Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox's interests.
Mr. Reynolds was appointed a director of Messrs. Reunert and Lenz in 1914, and in 1921 as managing director.
In 1930 he founded the firm of Messrs. Reynolds, Sons and Partners, as the South African associated company of Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox. During his long connexion of over twenty-five years with Messrs. Babcock Mr. Reynolds was responsible for the construction of all the large power stations in South Africa using their plant.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1910, and his death occurred on 28th July 1931.
