HARRY SIMPSON POCHIN was for nearly fifty years managing director of Messrs. Goodwin Barsby and Company, Ltd., St. Margaret's Ironworks, Leicester. He was born in 1871 and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Thomas Green and Sons, makers of lawn mowers, Leeds, from 1888 to 1893, passing through the fitting and erecting shops and gaining experience in the drawing office.
After a brief period of employment with Messrs. Harland and Wolff, of Belfast, as an erector, he began his long association with Messrs. Goodwin Barsby and Company, which was only terminated by his death on 13th September 1944. Mr. Pochin had been a Member of the Institution since 1915.
He served on the Local Reception Committee during the Summer Meeting of the Institution held in Leicester in 1937.
