1968 Frank Hawtin was chairman of Dental Manufacturing Co. The dental division was sold to A. D. International. Name changed to Hawtin Industries [1]
1968 Acquired Park Brothers, of Blackburn, auto electrical engineers[2]
1969 The main activities were manufacturing of agricultural machinery and automotive products[3]
1970 Sold the silencer business, Cheswick and Wright, the largest outside the USA, to Tube Investments[4]. Sold Richard Sizer to Tremletts. As part of a move towards merchant banking activities, acquired Metropole Enterprises (Blackpool) [5]. The main divisions were Engineering, and Building and Construction. Acquired Cussins (Contractors), house builders and general contractors[6]. Partial takeover of Rawlings Brothers, building and electrical contractors[7]. Acquired a majority interest in Joylock Ltd, property developer of South Wales[8]
Name changed to Hawtin.
1973 Sold Standen and Sons to Tremletts[9].
1974 Stock Market quotation suspended when Gulf and Western proposed to take-over the banking and hire-purchase activities[10]
1977 Applied for resumption of Stock Market listing; business was in industrial gloves and serving DIY and home improvement trades.
1990 Hawtin, the Cardiff distribution and property developer, went into a loss[11]
