HENRY BROWN was born at Slough on 18th October 1832, his father being a florist.
After being educated at Edmonton he was articled to Mr. Murray, University Street, London.
At an early age he entered the service of the London Brighton and South Coast Railway as a draughtsman; and in 1854 went to the railway carriage works of Messrs. Joseph Wright and Sons, Saltley, near Birmingham, where he rose from the position of draughtsman to that of general manager, which he continued to hold when the business became known in 1862 as the Metropolitan Railway Carriage Company.
In 1871 he resigned that post in order to take the entire management of the Kingston Metal Works, Birmingham.
Subsequently he entered into business on his own account in Birmingham as a railway stores contractor, and travelled extensively in connection therewith.
His death took place at Perry Barr, Birmingham, on 10th October 1891, in the fifty-ninth year of his age.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1863.
