1851 Living at 9 Nelson Square, Southwark: Mortimer Burton (age 39 born St. Saviour, Surrey), Engineer and a Widower. With his son Benjamin Burton (age 4 born Christ Church, Surrey). Also his brother Alfred Burton (age 47 born Bethnal Green), Engineer's Partner; his sister Anne Burton (age 30 born St. Saviour, Surrey); his nephew George Waller (age 19 born Islington), Engineer's Apprentice. Two servants.[1]
1851 August 9th. Married at Westminster to Hannah Eliza Vining. He is a widower.

To Bennett Alfred Burton and Henry Mortimer Burton, of John's-place, Holland street, Blackfriar's-road, in the county of Surrey, Engineers, for the invention of "improvements in the mode of manufacturing casks, vats, and other like vessels, and in the machinery or apparatus to be employed for such purpose."'[2]
1854 Bankrupt. '...Bankruptcy, bearing date the 8th day of April, 1854, hath been duly filed against Bennett Alfred Burton and Henry Mortimer Burton, of John's-place, Holland-street, Southwark, in the county of Surrey, Engineers, Dealers and Chapmen, and they being declared bankrupts,...'[3]

With his wife Mary Burton (age 27 born St. James, Mddx.) and their children Mary Burton (age 2 born Southwark); Ernest Burton (age 2 born Southwark); and Walter Burton (age 5 months born Southwark). Also his brother Alfred Burton (age 52 born Mddx.) and his sister-in-law Clara Vining (age 14 born mddx.). Also a visitor and two servants.[4]

John Chubb, of St. Paul's-churchyard, in the city of London, Patent Lock and Safe Manufacturer, and Henry Mortimer Burton, of John's-place, Holland-street, Southwark, in the county of Surrey, Engineer, for an invention of improvements in apparatus for displaying or exhibiting jewelry and other valuable articles in glass cases/'[5]
