HENRY MUIR was born at Renfrew on 19th May 1865.
He was educated at Renfrew Grammar School, and served a five years' apprenticeship from 1881 with W. Simons and Co., engineers and shipbuilders.
Subsequently he went to sea as Third Engineer on S.S. "Medusa," of Singapore and Bangkok, for two years, and then became assistant engineer in a rice-mill at Bangkok.
In 1892 he went to sea again as Second Engineer, subsequently becoming First and Chief Engineer.
In July 1898 he was appointed Government Surveyor of Ships, serving both in Penang and Singapore.
This position he held until his death, which took place at Penang on 23rd December 1919, at the age of fifty-four.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1905.
