1922 Wing-Comdr., O.B.E., A.F.0., Officer Commanding Experimental Establishment, Isle of Grain. Is one of the pioneers of Aeronautical Eng. Built and raced motor-cycles and motor-cars in Australia; 1910—came to England and learnt to fly at the Bristol Aeroplane Co.'s Flying Sch. on Salisbury Plain, afterwards becoming Chief Experimental Pilot. Joined the R.N.A.S. at the beginning of the War, and was severely wounded in the sinking of H.M. Seaplane Carrier "Hermes "; afterwards in command the Naval Air Service Aeroplane Test Flight at Eastchurch. Was appointed to the command of the Marine Aircraft Experimental Construction Department at the Isle of Grain. During 1917 was promoted to command the whole' of the Marine Aircraft Experimental Station at the Isle of Grain, which command he still holds. | |||
