Henry Simon Ltd., Cheadle Heath, Stockport.
The Cheadle Heath engineering works of Henry Simon Ltd., are situated a few miles to the south of Manchester in pleasant rural surroundings. They were built in 1926, are laid out on ideal lines, and are among the most up-to-date in the country, They have since been extended to meet the growing demands of the business, and more recently the head offices were transferred from Manchester to Cheadle Heath, where spacious commercial and drawing offices have been built adjoining the works.
The whole of the specialised products of the parent company, Henry Simon Ltd., are manufactured in these works. The two main sections are flour mill machinery and conveying and handling equipment of all types.
Messrs. Simon are probably the largest manufacturers of flour milling machinery in the country and have maintained a pre-eminent position in this industry for over 50 years. Many of the largest and most important flour mills, not only in this country but throughout the world, are arranged on the famous "Simon" system of flour manufacture. The machinery employed is both interesting and ingenious and is outstanding both as regards appearance and workmanship.
On the conveying side Messrs. Simon have established a reputation for the high quality of their products. They have been responsible for the erection and equipment of numerous granaries in different parts of the world, notably the huge 80,000 ton granary for the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway Company at Bahia Blanca — a contract to the value of approximately one million pounds.
Messrs. Simon also manufacture conveying plants for other purposes such as the handling of coal, phosphates, general goods, etc. and in this connection such plants as the phosphate loading plant at Nauru, the coal handling plant at Clarence Dock Power Station, Liverpool, and parcel and letter handling plants at the Mount Pleasant, Glasgow, and Sydney Post Offices are outstanding examples. All this work is carried out at Cheadle Heath.
