HERBERT JAMES ROSCOE had a long experience as engineer in charge of various electrical generating stations, and since 1922 had been associated with the Central Electric Supply Company and the London Power Company.
He was born in Liverpool in 1875 and completed his education at the Liverpool Technical Institute and Liverpool University College.
He commenced his apprenticeship in 1890 with the Liverpool Electric Supply Company, and in 1895 joined Messrs. Chamberlain and Hookham of Birmingham, manufacturers of electricity meters.
He was later appointed distributing engineer for the Borough Council of Shoreditch, and given sole charge of mains work, public street lighting, and plans for new work.
In 1909 he resigned this appointment and became constructional engineer for the Corporation of Salford. He subsequently took up an appointment as chief assistant engineer for the Chelsea Electricity Supply Company and during this period was engaged on experimental work in connexion with a Diesel engine plant of 1,000 b.h.p.
In 1918 he joined the Westminster Electric Supply Corporation in the same capacity, and remained with this company until he joined the Central Electric Supply Company in 1922.
His death occurred on 11th March 1932.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1921.
