HERBERT THOMAS ALLEN, born in India on the 10th March, 1883, was killed in action in France on the 25th September, 1915.
He gained his early experience in mechanical works and on the staff of the North Staffordshire Railway.
Between 1906 and 1914 he was employed successively on the construction of the Shire Highlands Railway, Nyasaland, the Sutlej Valley Railway, India, and as District Engineer on the Trinidad Railways.
On the outbreak of war he accepted a commission, first in the Royal Naval Reserve, and later in the 9th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, being shortly afterwards gazetted captain.
He was elected an Associate Member on the 3rd February, 1914
