"HERBERT THOMAS GOULD, who was born in 1878, served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Leete Edwards and Norman, general engineers, London, from 1894 to 1897, and in the meanwhile attended classes at the City and Guilds College, Finsbury, and the City of London College. After three years in the drawing office of Messrs. Barnett and Foster, London, he became draughtsman to the late Dr. L. Mond and subsequently was associated in the same capacity with the Power Gas Corporation, being promoted eventually to be leading draughtsman. From 1916 to 1920 he acted as assistant to Mr. W. H. Patchell, M.I.Mech.E., consulting engineer, and for the next three years was engineer to Messrs. Gas Distribution, Ltd., Nuneaton. In 1923 he joined Messrs. Alfred Herbert, Ltd., Coventry, where for many years he occupied the position of chief assistant to the director of the pulverized-fuel department until his retirement from active life. Mr. Gould had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1907. His death occurred on 18th April 1950."
