Manufacturer of Paper and Paper-Hangings.

At its zenith the firm was one of the largest, and to its competitors the most formidable in the trade, making all grades of goods, including "blocks" and hand-made "marbles." In 1859 the firm's output was so large that it paid £20,000 in paper duty and sent out three million pieces.[1]

Partners included Robert Smith, Eli Higginbottom, and Isaac Higginbottom

1851 The firm obtained a Gold Medal at the Great Exhibition in London, for "Patterns whereon were printed 20 colours made by 14 rollers"

1865 Works were in Hyde Road, Ardwick, Manchester and they had warehouses in London, Glasgow, Dublin and Huddersfield. Their paper mill was Arden Mill in Cheshire.[2]

1865 Patent. '322. And Jabez Booth, Foreman of the Heywood, Higginbottom, Smith, and Company (Limited), Paper Staining Works, Hyde-road, in the city of Manchester, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the manufacture of paper hangings."'[3]

1876 Issued capital reduced.[4]

1881 Exhibited at the Melbourne Exhibition

1892 Company wound up.[5][6]
