1884 The Highgate cable tramway was opened by the Highgate Steep Grade Tramways and Works Co; the tramway had been constructed by the Patent Cable Tramways Corporation; J. Bucknall Smith was the constructing engineer[1]; it was the first application of the cable tramway system in Europe[2]
1887 The Highgate Hill Cable Tramway was managed by the Patent Cable Tramways Corporation[3]
1892 As a result of an accident the cable tramway stopped operation
1893 the repairs took several months' the company was thought to be insolvent; a new company had been established to continue the operations but restarting required approval of the local authorities[4]
1896 The company was registered on June 15th. [5]
1897 Restarted cable operations[6].
1906 the Highgate Steep Grade Tramways and Works Co was closed after the police refused to renew its licence until the carriages had been put into proper state of repair[7]
