Hird, Jarratt, Dawson and Hardy
of Low Moor, Bradford
Richard Hird, John Jarratt, Rev Joseph Dawson, and John Hardy formed a partnership, to utilise the mineral resources in the area. This became the Low Moor Co.
1790 The partners established blast furnaces at Wibsey Low Moor, constructed by Thomas Woodcock, stonemason and builder. The company engineer at that time was Edward Smalley, from Wigan. The furnaces were ready for operation in August 1791.
A township grew up around the site, known as North Bierley.
